ARC REVIEW: Eruption (The Hunted #3) by Ivy Smoak

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’ve been rocking with this series since the beginning. Penny Taylor and James Hunter (aka Professor Hunter) have come a long way since the world found out about their illicit student-teacher affair. In Eruption we find James and Penny two years after leaving the University of New Castle for a new start in NYC. Penny has just graduated college and she’s preparing to marry James within a couple of weeks. And so the drama begins…

Two years may have passed, but Penny is still very insecure and VERY addicted (or rather a-dick-ted) to James. James is still keeping secrets from Penny concerning his parents — who are THE worst, his past, and his ex-wife, Isabella. As if trying to get her soon-to-be in-laws to accept her, wedding planning, starting an internship at Hunter Technologies, bonding with her fellow interns wasn’t enough; Penny’s BFFs, Melissa and Tyler are now dating which drastically changes the dynamic of their friendship.

Eruption got off to a slow start for me. There’s hot and steamy smexing which we’ve come to expect from Penny and James, but it’s primarily their day-to-day as the wedding approaches for at least 50% of this book. Though not terribly exciting, it was good to see them interact with the supporting cast more here than in previous installments. Things are going smoothly until Isabella comes on the scene to wreak havoc.

All I’ll say is that Isabella is the true puppet master! James and especially Penny are ill-equipped to fight against her evil intentions. I don’t want to spoil it, so you’ll have to read it for yourself. Looking forward to Book 4, Devotion (which releases in late October) when Penny and James to FINALLY get their HEA…I hope!

Eruption is not a stand alone novel, you should read Temptation and Addiction before this installment to soak up all the juicy backstory.
