My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Liya’s sister, Annika, decides to move from London to Starling Falls, USA to run their grandaunt’s bakery. Liya thinks her baby sis has lost her ever-loving mind picking up her whole life to move across the Atlantic to help a distant relative they barely know. Regardless of this fact, she’s not letting her sister go it alone., even if that means leaving her job as a nurse and postponing her plans of attending medical school at Oxford University. You see, Liya puts up a good front at being ornery but deep inside she’s a big ol’ softy with a heart of gold! I absolutely loved Liya’s smart mouth and feistiness. She was my kind of heroine, even with her “I can’t fall in love” foolishness!
Caleb, a sexy firefighter, meets Liya meet when he’s hit by a car (saving a child, no less)…
In addition to falling in love with Caleb and Liya, the supporting cast is full of humor and all the meddling you’d expect from a romance set in a small town where no one’s business is private. This being the first in the series, we meet a host of characters of different ethnicities, sexual orientations and personalities. I FLOVED every last one of them, including cantankerous Aunt Trudy. They added to the story without ever taking away from Liya and Caleb in any way.
I enjoyed this book immensely and the author’s voice. I’m not-so-patiently waiting for Nikki and Jacob’s story next.
