ARC REVIEW: Evolve (Soulmates #4) by Nicole Dykes

Jackie, BFF to Maddy, has a reputation of being a ditz and a “slut”.  Her hookup with Jake was the catalyst for Maddy and Jake’s epic fallout.  Andy, Maddy’s ex-boyfriend, doesn’t exactly have the best reputation after he cheated on the town’s golden girl.  To say Jackie and Andy’s teenaged lives are entwined and complicated is an understatement. Although Jackie and Andy have been a part of each other’s lives since childhood, they don’t really know each other; not until one night at the lake house shifts things for them.

Both made a concerted effort to overcome the reputations they had, while facing their own faults in how they earned said reputations. Jackie and Andy deepen their friendship first which leads to love neither expected after being friends for their whole lives.

I enjoyed the path of Jackie and Andy’s love story from their senior year of high school to their mid-20s. The story was romantic in a realistic way for how old…or rather, how young these characters were. Neither is perfect and mistakes are made but they eventually get it  right without having to change who they were at their core. Evolve is longer than the other books in the Soulmate series which gave us more story and time versus a quickie friends-to-lovers tale. Having read the series from the beginning, the evolution of Ms. Dykes’ writing is apparent in the flow and pace of Evolve as well.  I’m looking forward to reading Michelle’s story in the future.
