REVIEW: Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

Although many readers I know hail this book as one of the best in the chick-lit genre, I did not enjoy it very much. I’m all for self-discovery, but how self-absorbed and indulgent can one person be?? It actually took me over a year of off and on reading before I finished it. I loved the chapters when Gilbert is in Italy—not so much for the writing or the story, instead because it reminded me of my own fond memories of eating my way through Rome. I did not particularly enjoy her time in India…snooze-fest.

Who cares that she couldn’t quiet her mind long enough to meditate the right way. I’m a total sap for a love story, but wasn’t totally captivated by her journey in Bali.

Although the content of EPL wasn’t my cup of tea, I did find Ms. Gilbert’s writing style engaging.
