I LOVED this book!! Can’t recommend it enough. Admittedly, I was a bit wary when it was first released in ’09–wondering how a story about Black women could be told with authenticity by someone who was not. There were times that I was incensed and appalled by what Aibileen and Minny endured. Maybe because it wasn’t just a story to me–this was a life from which I am only 1 generation removed as a Black woman with Southern relatives. I couldn’t put the book down; I read it within 3 days while on vacation. Kathryn Stockett’s writing is stellar, making the characters believable and completely drawing the reader in. I was transported to another time and place.
