I almost didn’t finish this book. The H/h annoyed me to no end with their guilt, secrets and lies. As I kept reading the hero grew on me…although misguided he did love the heroine and tried to make things right so they could finally be together. She, on the other hand, thwarted his every move to maintain her own lies. The writing overall was well-done and quite believable for the time and setting. I typically don’t read historicals so I did find it a bit too colorful and lyrical for my taste, but was appropriate for the genre. I haven’t read the others in the series and I can honestly say that I most likely will not.
